Her har jeg samlet linker og noen sitater fra artikler og klipp fra det som skjer i USA rundt boka til Rob Bell. Men dette vil raskt vært utdatert fordi det skjer så utrolig mye (skriv "rob bell" på twitter...), men det kan i alle fall sees på som en innføring i debatten fra starten, om ikke annet.

What if I don’t agree with all of the content of this book?
This is ok. Love Wins describes Christian orthodoxy as a wide stream that has room for a variety of perspectives and plenty of uncertainty, hope, and mystery. Within that stream, our community values and practices questioning, leaving room for mystery and doubt. Whenever Jesus is firmly established at the center, there is room for disagreement, tension, questions, faith, and paradox in any conversation.

First, Rob is first and foremost a poet/artist/dramatist who has a fantastic gift for communicating in ways that inspire creativity and provoke thought. Rob is far more comfortable (and far better at) questioning established beliefs and creatively hinting at possible answers than he is at constructing a logically rigorous case defending a definitive conclusion. I enthusiastically recommend Love Wins because of the way it empowers readers to question old perspectives and consider new ones.

I told the USA TODAY reporter that Rob Bell’s newly released Love Wins is a fine book and that I basically agree with his theology. I knew that the book was being widely criticized for having crossed the theological bridge from evangelical orthodoxy into universalism. Not true, I told the reporter. Rob Bell is calling us away from a stingy orthodoxy to a generous orthodoxy.

And I believe people will; people choose hell now, I assume people, when you die, you can choose hell. So there is no denial of hell here. There is a very real awareness that this is a clear and present reality that extends on into the future. But the real question is essentially if millions and millions of people who have never heard of Jesus are going to be tormented forever by God because they didn't believe in the Jesus they'd never heard of, then at that point we will have far larger problems than a book by a pastor from Grand Rapids.

Ytterst är detta en uppgörelse med åsikten att Gud drivs av vrede, att han skulle vara en slags tyrann som det gäller att blidka. En sådan Gudsbild leder enligt Bell till att livet kuvas, rädsla för straff och hopp om belöning med en plats i himlen medan de andra straffas i evighet, vilket man tycker känns rättvist både utifrån Guds rättfärdighet och den egna uppoffringen.

To be fair, in my reading of an advance copy of Bell's book, I didn't see universalism, though there are statements that lean in that direction. He clearly says that God's love can be "resisted and rejected and denied and avoided," and that doing so "is a form of punishment of its own" and "an increasingly unloving hellish reality." In this respect, he seems to be in company with ideas implicit in C. S. Lewis's The Great Divorce.
